RESUMEN

Natural approach became a high demand for the prevention and treatment of such diseases for their proven safety and efficacy. This study is aimed to perform comparative phytochemical analysis of white pitaya (Hylocereus undatus) peel, pulp and seed extracts via determination of total flavonoid content, phenolic content, and antioxidant capacity, coupled with HPLC-ESI/MS-MS analysis. Further, we evaluated the synergistic cytotoxic potential with Cisplatin against cervical cancer cells with investigation of underlying mechanism. The highest content of phenolics and antioxidants were found in both seed and peel extracts. The HPLC-ESI/MS-MS revealed identification of flavonoids, phenolic acids, anthocyanin glycosides, lignans, stilbenes, and coumarins. The cytotoxicity effects were evaluated by MTT assay against prostate, breast and cervical (HeLa) and Vero cell lines. The seed and peel extracts showed remarkable cytotoxic effect against all tested cell lines. Moreover, the selectivity index confirmed high selectivity of pitaya extracts to cancer cells and safety on normal cells. The combined therapy with Cisplatin effectively enhanced its efficacy and optimized the treatment outcomes, through the apoptotic ability of pitaya extracts in HeLa cells, as evaluated by flow cytometry. Besides, RT-PCR and western blotting analysis showed downregulation of Bcl-2 and overexpression of P53, BAX among HeLa cells treated with pitaya extracts, which eventually activated apoptosis process. Thus, pitaya extract could be used as adjuvant therapy with cisplatin for treatment of cervical cancer. Furthermore, in-vivo extensive studies on the seed and peel extracts, and their compounds are recommended to gain more clarification about the required dose, and side effects.

AKT2 is crucial for cancer cells' invasion, metastasis, and survival. It is a possible downstream gene target of cancer glycolysis-related microRNAs. The study investigated the role of miRNA-4716-3p, rs2304186, and the AKT2 gene in blood cancer pathogenesis. RT-qPCR was used to analyze AKT2 gene mRNA and miRNA-4716-3p expression in 200 blood cancer samples and 200 healthy controls. Furthermore, Tetra-ARMS PCR was used to examine the rs2304186 AKT2 SNP in 300 patients and 290 control samples. miRNA-4716-3p was shown to be significantly downregulated (p = 0.0294), whereas mRNA expression of the AKT2 gene was found to be significantly upregulated (p = 0.0034) in blood cancer patients compared to healthy individuals. miRNA-4716-3p downregulation (p = 0.0466) was more pronounced, while AKT2 upregulation was non-significant (p = 0.1661) in untreated patients compared to chemotherapy-treated patients. Blood cancer risk was significantly associated with the rs2304186 GT genotype (p = 0.0432), TT genotype (p = 0.0502), and mutant allele (T) frequency (p = 0.0008). Polymorphism rs2304186 was associated with an increased risk of blood cancer in dominant (p = 0.0011), recessive (p = 0.0502), and additive (p = 0.0008) genetic models. The results suggested that the rs2304186 and the deregulated expression of miRNA-4716-3p and AKT2 gene at the mRNA level may significantly increase the incidence of blood cancer, particularly in the Pakistani population. Therefore, these may function as suitable biomarkers for blood cancer diagnosis and prognosis. Additional, larger-scale investigations may be required to affirm these results.

Novel chitosan polymers were synthesized using two cross-linkers, Glutaraldehyde and Terephthaldehyde, to enhance stability and efficiency. Characterization techniques (XRD, FTIR, FE-SEM, TGA, DTG, BJH, and BET) confirmed successful synthesis. These polymers were employed as adsorbents for removing Malachite Green (MG) and Congo Red (CR) dyes from water. Batch experiments and DFT calculations investigated the adsorption process, thermodynamics, and kinetics. Results showed the CSGT-III polymer achieved the highest removal efficiency. For initial dye concentrations ([CR]o = 50 mg/L, [MG]o = 20 mg/L) and adsorbent doses (0.8 g/L for CR, 0.4 g/L for MG), removal efficiencies were 96.99 % for CR and 99.07 % for MG. Thermodynamic analysis confirmed the spontaneous nature of adsorption, and the process was endothermic for both dyes. The Langmuir model fitted adsorption isotherms well, indicating a homogeneous surface. Kinetic analysis revealed a pseudo-second-order model for both dyes.

OBJECTIVE: This study examined the relationship between use patterns of a popular e-cigarette brand using nicotine salts, JUUL, and symptoms of nicotine dependence in a college cohort. PARTICIPANTS: Data for this study came from a prospective cohort of undergraduate students at a large Midwestern university from 2018 to 2019. METHODS: Among participants who had ever tried a JUUL (N = 411), univariate and multivariable logistic regression were used to test the associations between use frequency (past 30-day use) and quantity (time to finish a pod) and nicotine dependence at follow up. RESULTS: In the multivariable models, both frequency of use and quantity of use were associated with subsequent nicotine dependence, based on most indicators of dependence. CONCLUSIONS: As salt-based nicotine is now present in the most popular e-cigarette brands used by young people, such findings inform our contemporary understanding of e-cigarettes' addictive potential and can help inform campus-based interventions.

OBJECTIVE: The aim of the study was to assess the disinfection efficacy, bond integrity, and nano hardness of caries-affected dentin (CAD) surface bonded to resin cement when disinfected with chlorhexidine (CHX), Methylene blue activated by Photodynamic therapy (MB-PDT), chitosan, silver diamine fluoride (SDF), chitosan activated by PDT, and SDF-diode laser against S. mutans. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 60 human mandibular molars were extracted non-traumatically and gathered using ICDAS criteria. The dentin surface was prepared, leaving CAD to receive a disinfection procedure. After inoculation with S. mutans, the CAD samples were divided into six groups and disinfected with various disinfectants (n = 10) CHX, MB-PDT, chitosan, chitosan-PDT, SDF, and SDF+ diode laser. Survival rates of S. mutans were analyzed following the restoration of samples with resin cement via the etch and rinse method to assess SBS. Also, nano hardness was analyzed. Statistical analysis was performed by using the ANOVA and the Tukey multiple test (p<0.05). The Kruskal-Wallis test was used to evaluate the change in survival rate. RESULTS: Related to the survival rates, the SDF+ diode laser displayed the highest reduction in S. mutans levels and chitosan presented the lowest level of disinfection. The intergroup comparison revealed that CHX and chitosan-PDT displayed comparable outcomes of S. mutans survival rate to that of SDF+ diode laser (p>0.05). Likewise, MB-PDT and SDF displayed a comparable survival rate of S. mutans to Chitosan disinfection (p>0.05). Considering SBS and nano hardness, the highest SBS and NH were exhibited by the SDF+ diode laser, and the lowest SBS and NH values were exhibited by MB-PDT. The intragroup comparison revealed that CAD specimens disinfected with Chitosan-PDT showed comparable SBS and NH values to the SDF+ diode laser (p>0.05). CHX, chitosan, and SDF exhibited bond values and NH comparable to MB-PDT (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: Synergistic use of Silver diamine fluoride with diode laser and chitosan activated by PDT can be used as an alternative to CHX for controlling S. mutans growth, promoting enhanced bond efficacy and nano hardness for bonding resin cement to the caries-affected dentin.

INTRODUCTION: Many studies have found varying health outcomes in patients from different minority ethnic groups. There has been limited research into the outcomes in major trauma dependent on ethnicity. The aim was to analyse whether ethnicity was an independent risk factor for 30-day mortality in patients presenting to a major trauma centre when adjusting for confounders. METHODS: This was a retrospective review of all patients presenting to a single major trauma centre from 2010 to 2020. Data were collected on patient demographics and variables including mechanism and injury severity score. Logistic regression was used to determine significant predictors of mortality. RESULTS: There were 10,668 data sets with ethnicity data; of these 9,098 were of White ethnicity, 1,143 were Asian and 427 were classified as Black. The 30-day mortality rate was 7.76% for White ethnicities, 6.91% for Asian ethnicity and 5.15% for people of Black ethnicity. On multivariate logistic regression, ethnicity (p = 0.076) was not associated with 30-day mortality. Age, Injury Severity Score (ISS), Probability of Survival (PS) score, shock and Glasgow Coma Scale (GCS; p < 0.001) were associated with 30-day mortality. White ethnicity had an odds ratio (OR) of mortality of 1.16 (95% confidence interval [CI] 0.658-2.040) (p = 0.609) compared with Black ethnicity and an OR of 0.74 (95% CI 0.546-1.001) (p = 0.050) compared with Asian patients. Black patients had an OR of mortality of 0.65 (95% CI 0.351-1.193) (p = 0.164) compared with the Asian population. CONCLUSION: Ethnicity is not a significant risk factor for 30-day mortality in trauma patients.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) probably offer reduced harm compared with cigarettes, but independent data concerning their misuse liability are lacking. We compared nicotine delivery and craving relief from ONPs with different nicotine concentrations to cigarettes. DESIGN: This was a single-blind, three-visit (≥ 48-hour washout), randomized-cross-over study. Participants were encouraged to complete all study visits in less than 1 month. SETTING: The study took place in Rural/Appalachian Ohio. PARTICIPANTS: Participants comprised 30 adults who smoke cigarettes. Participants (meanage = 34.5) were 60% men and 90% White. INTERVENTION: Participants who were ≥ 12-hour tobacco-abstinent used: (1) a 3-mg nicotine concentration ONP, (2) a 6-mg nicotine concentration ONP and (3) usual brand cigarette in separate visits. ONPs (wintergreen Zyn) were used for 30 minutes; cigarettes were puffed every 30 sec for 5 minutes. MEASUREMENTS: Plasma nicotine and self-reported craving were assessed at t = 0, 5, 15, 30, 60 and 90 minutes. The primary outcome was plasma nicotine concentration at t = 30 minutes. A secondary outcome was craving relief at t = 5 minutes. FINDINGS: At t = 30, mean [95% confidence interval (CI)] plasma nicotine was 9.5 ng/ml (95% CI = 7.1, 11.9 ng/ml) for the 3 mg nicotine ONP, 17.5 ng/ml (95% CI = 13.7, 21.3) for the 6 mg nicotine ONP and 11.4 ng/ml (95% CI = 9.2, 13.6 ng/ml) for the cigarette. Mean plasma nicotine at t = 30 minutes differed between the 3- and 6-mg nicotine ONPs (P = 0.001) and between the 6-mg nicotine ONP and cigarette (P = 0.002). Mean (95% CI) craving at t = 5 minutes was lower for the cigarette (mean = 1.00, 95% CI = 0.61, 1.39) than either the 3 mg (mean = 2.25, 95% CI = 1.68, 2.82; P < 0.0001) or 6 mg nicotine (mean = 2.19, 95% CI = 1.60, 2.79; P < 0.0001) ONP. CONCLUSIONS: Among adult smokers, using 6-mg nicotine concentration oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) was associated with greater plasma nicotine delivery at 30 minutes than 3-mg ONPs or cigarettes, but neither ONP relieved craving symptoms at 5 minutes as strongly as a cigarette. Accelerating the speed of nicotine delivery in ONPs might increase their misuse liability relative to cigarettes.

Background and objective Extra-articular fractures of the tibia are common orthopedic injuries that are frequently treated with rigid intramedullary nailing. Fracture location and pattern may increase the risk of nonunion or malunion in fractures managed with intramedullary nails. This study aimed to assess the relationship between fracture pattern and location with malunion and nonunion. The primary objective was to evaluate the influence of fracture location and pattern on adverse clinical outcomes such as nonunion, delayed union, and malunion in tibial shaft fractures that are treated operatively with rigid intramedullary nails. Methodology This was a retrospective cross-sectional study conducted on patients operated in a tertiary care center in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The study included patients who sustained tibia shaft fractures and were subsequently operated with intramedullary of the tibia. The primary endpoint was the rate of adverse outcomes associated with fracture patterns. Fracture characteristics were to determine which fracture patterns healed well with intramedullary nailing and which fractures ended up with malunion or nonunion and would likely benefit from additional measures to augment the nail fixation and help encourage union. Results One hundred and eighty-nine patients were included in the study. The level of associated fibula fracture was significantly associated with an increased risk of nonunion and malunion (P = 0.0034, P = 0.001). The presence of a concomitant distal fibula fracture in association with tibia fractures increased the odds of nonunion (odds ratio [OR] = 4.871, P = 0.033, confidence interval [CI] = 1.133-20.948). Conclusions The level and pattern of some tibia and fibula fractures were associated with nonunion, malunion, and delayed union. Further studies with more robust follow-up are needed to examine these findings in greater detail.

OBJECTIVE: There is a need to treat cancer cells with safe and natural nanoparticles to avoid the side effects of chemotherapeutic agents. Chamomile is considered a safe, natural plant with anticancer activity. We synthesize simple, inexpensive, and eco-friendly silver nanoparticles (SNs) using Chamomile (CHM) to tune their anticancer properties. MATERIALS AND METHODS: SN-CHM was synthesized by reducing 1 mM silver nitrate aqueous solution in 100 mL with the aqueous ethanolic flower extract of CHM (18 mg/mL, w/v). The reaction proceeded overnight at 600 rpm and 28°C. SN-CHM was characterized for their % yield, average diameter, charge, morphology, and silver release. Moreover, SN-CHM was investigated for its antioxidant and anticancer activities at 200 µg/mL and 5 mg/ mL, respectively. RESULTS: A 59.12% yield and a uniform SN-CHM size of 115 ± 3.1 nm with a ζ-potential of -27.67 ± (-3.92) mv were observed. The UV-visible absorption showed shifts from 379.5 to 383.5 nm for CHM and SN-CHM, respectively. Moreover, Ag+ was ultimately released from SN-CHM after 5 h. Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FT-IR) showed characteristic absorption peaks of CHM and produced SN-CHM. Furthermore, SN-CHM showed moderate antioxidant activity. SN-CHM inhibited the % viability of SW620 and HT-29 cell lines at 20 µM. SN-CHM may also greatly upregulate the apoptotic gene BAX while considerably downregulating the anti-apoptotic genes BCL2 and BCL-Xl. CONCLUSIONS: CHM can be a safe soft drink, especially when conjugated with Ag ions as anticancer NPs. SN-CHM is considered potent anticancer activity against SW620, and HT-29 cell lines.

BACKGROUND: Oral nicotine pouches (ONPs) are novel products, gaining popularity and marketed as "tobacco-free" alternatives to cigarettes and smokeless tobacco (SLT), but their public health impact is unknown. This study qualitatively examined ONP appeal and perceptions among cigarette smokers and SLT users from Ohio Appalachia. METHODS: In 2022, we conducted 10 virtual focus groups with smokers (n = 19) and smokeless tobacco users (n = 18) from Appalachia Ohio aged ≥21 to examine perceptions of risks and benefits, substitutability for cigarettes and SLT, and ONP marketing. We transcribed focus groups verbatim, thematically coded transcripts, and analyzed coded data for prominent themes. RESULTS: Participants perceived ONPs to have similar or less risk than cigarettes/SLT but prominently discussed gastrointestinal and cardiovascular risks. Addiction risk was thought to be comparable to cigarettes/SLT, citing "nicotine is nicotine." Participants viewed ONPs to be situational rather than complete substitutes for cigarettes/SLT, viewing them as "cleaner," more socially acceptable, and discrete. Despite appealing features of ONP marketing, participants surmised ads would appeal to youth, new users, tobacco users seeking to cut down/quit, or to "high class," "white-collar" demographics. CONCLUSIONS: Participants' perceptions of ONPs and their marketing suggest ONPs are more likely to be used as situational versus complete substitutes for cigarettes and SLT. While situational substitution could exacerbate disparities in Appalachia by facilitating more frequent tobacco/nicotine use, complete substitution could reduce disparities. Research is needed to understand how perceptions, the appeal of ONP marketing, and novel product features translate to patterns of use to understand ONPs' potential impact.

The role that vehicular fog computing based on the Fifth Generation (5G) can play in improving traffic management and motorist safety is growing quickly. The use of wireless technology within a vehicle raises issues of confidentiality and safety. Such concerns are optimal targets for conditional privacy-preserving authentication (CPPA) methods. However, current CPPA-based systems face a challenge when subjected to attacks from quantum computers. Because of the need for security and anti-piracy features in fog computing when using a 5G-enabled vehicle system, the L-CPPA scheme is proposed in this article. Using a fog server, secret keys are generated and transmitted to each registered car via a 5G-Base Station (5G-BS) in the proposed L-CPPA system. In the proposed L-CPPA method, the trusted authority, rather than the vehicle's Onboard Unit (OBU), stores the vehicle's master secret data to each fog server. Finally, the computation cost of the suggested L-CPPA system regards message signing, single verification and batch verification is 694.161 ms, 60.118 ms, and 1348.218 ms, respectively. Meanwhile, the communication cost is 7757 bytes.

The hypothalamic brain cell types that produce estradiol from testosterone remain unclear. Aromatase inhibition affects ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMN) glucose-stimulatory nitric oxide (NO) and glucose-inhibitory γ-aminobutyric acid (GABA) transmission during insulin (INS)-induced hypoglycemia (IIH). Pure GABA and NO nerve cell samples acquired by laser-catapult-microdissection from consecutive rostro-caudal segments of the VMN were analyzed by Western blot to investigate whether regional subpopulations of each cell type contain machinery for neuro-estradiol synthesis. Astrocyte endozepinergic signaling governs brain steroidogenesis. Pharmacological tools were used here to determine if the glio-peptide octadecaneuropeptide (ODN) controls aromatase expression in GABA and NO neurons during eu- and/or hypoglycemia. Intracerebroventricular administration of the ODN G-protein coupled-receptor antagonist cyclo(1-8)[DLeu5]OP (LV-1075) decreased (male) or enhanced (female) VMN GABAergic neuron aromatase expression, but increased or reduced this profile in nitrergic neurons in a region-specific manner in each sex. IIH suppressed aromatase levels in GABA neurons located in the middle segment of the male VMN or distributed throughout this nucleus in the female. This inhibitory response was altered by the ODN isoactive surrogate octapeptide (OP) in female, but was refractory to OP in male. NO neuron aromatase protein in hypoglycemic male (middle and caudal VMN) and female (rostral and caudal VMN) rats, but was normalized in OP- plus INS-treated rats of both sexes. Results provide novel evidence that VMN glucose-regulatory neurons may produce neuro-estradiol, and that the astrocyte endozepine transmitter ODN may impose sex-specific control of baseline and/or hypoglycemic patterns of aromatase expression in distinct subsets of nitrergic and GABAergic neurons in this neural structure.

Alcohol consumption is prevalent in young adult women and linked with breast cancer risk. Research to inform interventions targeting alcohol consumption as a breast cancer prevention strategy is limited. We examined young women's awareness of alcohol use as a breast cancer risk factor, identified correlates of awareness, and determined how awareness and conceptual predictors relate to intentions to reduce drinking. Women aged 18-25 years who drank alcohol in the past month (N = 493) completed a cross-sectional survey. Measures captured sociodemographics, breast cancer risk factors, awareness of alcohol use as a breast cancer risk factor, intentions to reduce drinking, and conceptual predictors. Analyses examined correlates of awareness and associations between awareness, conceptual predictors, and intentions to reduce drinking. Awareness was low (28%) and intentions to reduce drinking were moderate (M = 2.60, SD = 0.73, range 1-4). In multivariable analyses, awareness was associated with greater worry about cancer, beliefs that there's not much one can do to reduce cancer risk and everything causes cancer, higher perceived breast cancer risk, and stronger beliefs that reducing drinking reduces breast cancer risk. Awareness was not associated with intentions to reduce drinking. Younger age, older age of alcohol initiation, negative attitudes towards alcohol, fewer friends consuming alcohol, and stronger self-efficacy were associated with intentions to reduce drinking. Few young women recognize alcohol consumption as a breast cancer risk factor. Researchers and policymakers can apply our findings to design new or refine existing interventions to optimize their impact on awareness and alcohol consumption in young women.


Alcohol use is common among young adult women and is linked to an increased risk of breast cancer later in life. This study aimed to identify factors linked to young women's awareness of alcohol as a breast cancer risk factor and factors linked to intentions to reduce drinking. We surveyed 493 women aged 18­25 who resided in Ohio and reported drinking alcohol in the past month. Only 28% of the women were aware that alcohol use increases breast cancer risk, and intentions to reduce drinking were moderate. Factors associated with awareness of alcohol use as a breast cancer risk factor included cancer worry, believing there's not much you can do to lower your risk of cancer, believing everything causes cancer, higher perceived risk of breast cancer, and stronger beliefs that drinking less reduces breast cancer risk. Factors linked to intentions to reduce drinking included younger age, older age at first drinking, more negative attitudes about alcohol, believing fewer friends drink, and higher confidence to reduce drinking. The findings can help researchers and policymakers create new interventions to educate young women about the link between alcohol consumption and breast cancer risk and reduce alcohol use as a breast cancer prevention strategy.

It is an assumption that physically active adults lead an overall healthy lifestyle. To examine this assumption, we administered a cross-sectional, web-based survey to a sample of young-to-middle-aged US adults between 18 and 49 who self-reported participation in at least one recreational sporting event in the past month. Logistic regressions were conducted to examine demographic characteristics associated with cancer risk and protective behaviors. Gender was represented equally (N = 938), and the average age was 32 years (SD: 8.4). Most participants reported >three days of moderate- to high-intensity physical activity (79%), but not meeting fruit and vegetable consumption guidelines (78%). Many reported current tobacco use (32%), binge drinking at least once in the past 30 days (62%), and suboptimal sun protection use (67%). Participation in lifestyle-related cancer risk and protective behaviors varied based on age, sex, education, routine doctor visits, perceived overall health, health-information-seeking behavior (how participants obtained health information), or team-based sport participation in regression models. Future interventions should be tailored to address varied cancer risk profiles among even physically active adults to encourage multiple healthy behavior changes.

The Aloe vera plant is a cactus-like plant in the Liliacea family that has been known and utilized for its medical benefits. It has been attempted to be used as a remineralizing agent and shows an antibacterial effect. Aim of the study - assessment of the remineralizing effect of solution of saturated Aloe vera gel compared to distal water by microhardness Vickers test and Densometric X-Ray Analysis and effect of Aloe vera gel against Enterococcus faecalis. 10 extracted permanent molars were used in this in vitro study. each tooth enrolls in Teflon tape and only the enamel of the occlusal surface was exposed to a demineralizing solution (acid etch) for 45 seconds in-vitro and randomly assigned to two groups: Group 1 was treated with distal water; group 2 was treated with Aloe vera gel. All groups except the control baseline group were treated with their respective remineralizing solution for 10 days. Vicker's Microhardness Number (VHN) and Densometric X-Ray Analysis were carried out at baseline, post-demineralization and later post 10 days of remineralization. The antibacterial effect of Aloe vera gel was assessed by the disc diffusion method. The filter paper was immersed in 20µl of different concentrations of Aloe vera gel extract as fresh Aloe vera (100 %) and (50 % and 25 %) diluted with de-ionized water after that the disc was distributed in a plate containing the E. faecalis. Antibiotics disc of Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid 30ug) were also poured in the same plate and incubated at 37°C for 24 hours and the zone of inhibition of antibiotic was measured for comparison with a zone of inhibition of filter paper saturated with Aloe vera gel. Densitometric X-Ray Analysis and Microhardness Number (VHN) evaluation showed improvement in the enamel density and the surface hardness after remineralization. The mean value in the group treated with Aloe vera solution was higher than the recorded mean value for the group treated with distal water. There was a significant difference between Aloe vera solution and distal water. Significant (p-value≤0.05) after 10 days. The antibacterial effect showed that E. faecalis was resistant to Aloe vera gel in different concentrations compared with Augmentin (Amoxicillin and Clavulanic acid 30ug). Aloe vera gel could be used for caries prevention in terms of safety and efficiency. While E. faecalis show resistance activity against Aloe vera gel.

Glucose accesses the brain primarily via the astrocyte cell compartment, where it passes through the glycogen shunt before catabolism to the oxidizable fuel L-lactate. Glycogen phosphorylase (GP) isoenzymes GPbb and GPmm impose distinctive control of ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMN) glucose-regulatory neurotransmission during hypoglycemia, but lactate and/or gliotransmitter involvement in those actions is unknown. Lactate or the octadecaneuropeptide receptor antagonist cyclo(1-8)[DLeu5] OP (LV-1075) did not affect gene product down-regulation caused by GPbb or GPmm siRNA, but suppressed non-targeted GP variant expression in a VMN region-specific manner. Hypoglycemic up-regulation of neuronal nitric oxide synthase was enhanced in rostral and caudal VMN by GPbb knockdown, yet attenuated by GPMM siRNA in the middle VMN; lactate or LV-1075 reversed these silencing effects. Hypoglycemic inhibition of glutamate decarboxylase65/67 was magnified by GPbb (middle and caudal VMN) or GPmm (middle VMN) knockdown, responses that were negated by lactate or LV-1075. GPbb or GPmm siRNA enlarged hypoglycemic VMN glycogen profiles in rostral and middle VMN. Lactate and LV-1075 elicited progressive rostral VMN glycogen augmentation in GPbb knockdown rats, but stepwise-diminution of rostral and middle VMN glycogen after GPmm silencing. GPbb, not GPmm, knockdown caused lactate or LV-1075 - reversible amplification of hypoglycemic hyperglucagonemia and hypercorticosteronemia. Results show that lactate and octadecaneuropeptide exert opposing control of GPbb protein in distinct VMN regions, while the latter stimulates GPmm. During hypoglycemia, GPbb and GPmm may respectively diminish (rostral, caudal VMN) or enhance (middle VMN) nitrergic transmission and each oppose GABAergic signaling (middle VMN) by lactate- and octadecaneuropeptide-dependent mechanisms.

Employing the quantum magnetohydrodynamic (QMHD) model, the basic properties of magnetosonic waves were investigated in a magnetorotating quantum plasma. The contemplated system considered a combined effects of quantum tunneling and degeneracy forces, dissipation influence, spin magnetization, in addition to the Coriolis force. Fast and slow magnetosonic modes were obtained and examined in the linear regime. Their frequencies are significantly modified due to the rotating parameters (frequency and angle) in addition to quantum correction effects. The nonlinear Korteweg-de Vries-Burger equation was derived using the reductive perturbation approach in a small amplitude limit. The aspects of magnetosonic shock profiles were explored analytically by applying the Bernoulli equation approach and numerically using the Runge-Kutta method. The regarded plasma parameters due to the investigated effects were found to play major roles in specifying the nature of monotonic and oscillatory shock waves' structures and their features. Our results may be applicable in magnetorotating quantum plasma in astrophysical environments such as neutron stars and white dwarfs.
